Boarding and Training

One of the finest horse boarding facilities in Sonoma County, with hunter/jumper training, foaling and care for retirees.

Boarding

State-of-the-art care for every stage of a horse’s life

Jaz Creek has grown from a few horses into a facility built for competition horses, young horses and retirees. Full-care boarding includes twice-daily feeding, daily stall cleaning, daily turnout and daily health checks; self-care boarding gives experienced owners full use of the facility. We keep learning so we can keep improving each horse’s quality of life, health and soundness.

Twice-daily feeding with Timothy and orchard grass hay, customized grain programs, and daily stall cleaning with fresh bedding. Automatic waterers in every stall.

Turnout

Individual paddocks, small-group turnout, and larger pasture for herd horses. All fencing is foal-safe, and all-weather paddocks keep horses out of the mud through winter.

Beyond the basics

Daily observation by experienced staff, blanketing, supplements, vet and farrier coordination, 24-hour on-site care, and detailed records for every horse.

Specialized care

Care tailored to each type of horse

01

Performance horses

Precise nutrition, consistent exercise schedules and expert handling for hunter/jumper, dressage and other disciplines. Equineciser conditioning between rides, premium arena footing, and flexibility around show schedules and late-night returns.

02

Young horses & foals

Extensive experience with weanlings, yearlings and young horses in training. Foal-safe fencing, careful handling and age-appropriate turnout groups.

03

Rehabilitation & layup

Padded floors, heated wash racks and larger 12′×16′ stalls in our custom barn. We follow your vet’s exercise and care plan, including controlled work on the Equineciser.

04

Broodmares & foaling

Separate foal-safe paddocks, round-the-clock monitoring in foaling season, and staff experienced in neonatal care.

Training

Professional training programs

Jaz Creek is home to two hunter/jumper programs and a boutique dressage program, and partners with Ijula Equestrian for hunter/jumper lessons. Outside professional trainers and self-care boarders are welcome.

Hunter/Jumper with Ijula Equestrian

From first lessons to A-circuit preparation: private and semi-private lessons and clinics, school horses for riders who don’t own one, and training programs for client horses.

The outdoor arena has professional show jumps and footing built for jumping, and the covered arena keeps training on schedule through the rainy season.

Self-care boarding

For experienced equestrians who manage their own care and training. Self-care boarders have full use of the arenas, round pen, trails and Equineciser. A good fit for professional trainers building a business, or hands-on owners.

Foal-safe grass paddocks

Broodmares & Foaling

One of the few Bay Area facilities offering full foaling services

Our small, specialized operation gives broodmares and newborn foals the round-the-clock attention and expert care they need. Foaling is a cornerstone of our business, not an afterthought.

Foal-safe environment

No wire and no gaps in any paddock or pasture. Separate turnout lets mares and foals bond, then join suitable groups as foals mature.

Comprehensive foaling care

Nutrition for pregnant and lactating mares, pregnancy monitoring, coordination with your reproductive vet, and 24-hour supervision in foaling season, through nursing, wellness checks and early handling.

Breeding program

Jaz Creek breeds a select number of horses each year for sale and for our own program, which keeps our foaling experience current.

Retirees

A good life for the noble older generation

We love retirees and give them the attention they deserve. Many older show horses prefer barn life with daily grooming; others are happiest outside in a paddock, alone or with friends. We offer the full range, from stall board to paddock living with shelter.

Why Jaz Creek

Why horse owners choose us

Experience & expertise

Since 2005, our staff has built decades of combined experience in competition horse management, breeding and foaling, rehabilitation and retirement care.

Facility quality

Arenas are dragged regularly, paddocks are managed to prevent mud, and stalls are bedded deep. The 2022 renovation raised an already excellent facility to a higher standard.

Personalized attention

We board up to 40 horses and are intentionally not a big commercial operation, so we know each horse’s personality, preferences and needs.

Location

On Roblar Road west of Cotati, under 10 min from Highway 101 and about 20 min from Santa Rosa, with easy trailering to shows.

Community

A welcoming, drama-free barn for every discipline. Many of our clients have been with us for years.

“Happy horses, happy owners, great facilities, and a nice relaxed atmosphere.”
— Lauren K.
